About Me
Sandip (Sonny) R. Patel earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in Power from the University of Illinois in 1995. He is a licensed professional engineer in multiple states, including Florida, California, New York, West Virginia, and Minnesota, where he practices electrical power engineering.
With 30 years of experience in high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) power engineering, Sonny spent over 14 years at Commonwealth Edison (Exelon) in Chicago, focusing on transmission and substation design while performing various power system studies. He then worked for four years with ALCOA, specializing in hydro power dams and NERC Operations & Planning compliance.
Most recently, Sonny contributed to EDF Renewables (2018 to 2021), where he engaged in various HV and MV power engineering tasks and O&P compliance responsibilities. He also has experience as a former Operations & Planning auditor for the SERC region, serves as a committee member for the P2800 IEEE standard, and is a senior member of the IEEE Power and Energy Society
